A Brampton man in his 70s has died from coronavirus (COVID-19), according to the Region of Peel.
The man, whose death was announced on March 31, had “underlying health conditions,” stated a release.
He was being treated at William Osler Health System's Brampton Civic Hospital.

In the release, Peel’s interim medical officer of health Dr. Lawrence Loh expressed condolences to the man’s family and said that the death “will likely not be the last life lost in our community to COVID-19.”
He also advised residents to continue taking measures to protect themselves and others from COVID-19.
“I call on everyone to strengthen our resolve to collectively slow the spread and save lives,” he said. “More than ever, residents who are ill should self-isolate at home for 14 days, and all residents should stay home as much as possible, only going out for essential reasons.”
In a statement, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said the man was tested for COVID-19 on March 25, and died the following day. Peel Public Health received the results of the test on Tuesday, March 31, he said.

Brown also said while the city’s first coronavirus-related death was expected, “the loss of one of our community members is hard, especially under these difficult circumstances.”
