The men’s and women’s Lancers basketball teams faced Queens University on Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre. The women’s team came out strong, managed to pull away on the scoreboard early in the game and held on for a 83-53 win. Immediately following the Lancers men’s team took the court with force, and managed to come through with a 74-56 win.
The stands were jammed with students, alumni and Lancers fans, out to cheer on the teams to victory. It was Toronto Raptors night at the game, and a traveling "Mobile Fan Zone" was on site to show off authentic jerseys and catch some bloopers of the Raptors' mascot. Representatives tossed t-shirts, hats, and other merchandise to some of the fans at the game.Former Raptors Jerome Williams and Gino Sovran were also in attendance for the games. Sovran is a Windsor native, a member of the original Toronto Huskies team, and has been inducted into the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame. red just about every chance they could, and quickly ran away on the scoreboard. By the end of the third quarter the Lancers had a massive 62-38 lead and weren’t letting up. After an outstanding fourth quarter effort from both teams, the Lancers held on and walked away with a 83-53 victory.The Lancers men’s team stormed the hardwood with nothing but winning on their minds. The game was fairly close for the first quarter, but by halftime the Lancers were sitting on a comfortable 14-point lead. Queens didn’t give up, and managed to bring the game within 11 points with just over a minute left in the game. However, The Lancers fought strong and pulled through with a 74-56 victory, not allowing the Gaels one point in the final minute of play.A great night for Lancers basketball, both teams played phenomenal and capitalized on all the right chances. Both teams have a break in their schedules until their respective christmas tournaments.
