September 9, 2011 - 6:00 p.m.Dogs are a common sight at North American outdoor markets and the Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market is no exception. While it's an adjustment for some, many people see their pets (especially their dogs) as family members and the market is one of the only non-park activities that you can do with your dog in tow.To celebrate four-legged friends and thank customers for their continued patronage, the Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market hosts Pets on Parade this Saturday, September 10.Along with the usual finds of amazing fresh, local and seasonal produce, fish, meat and baked goods, the market will also offer free pet portraits all day. Ravenswift Images will be on-hand to snap a photo and email you the fun shot (or pay $1 to pick up a 4x6 print the following weekend).Proud parents can also enter their pets in the Cutest Pet Contest where Facebook followers will spend the week voting on their favourite pooch (or cat or bird or ?).All kinds of pets are welcome for the contest and portraits but dogs have the upper paw when it comes to shopping for all-natural dog treats from one of the market's regular vendors, Pawsitively a Dog Thing. In addition to the pet theme, the live entertainment runs all day starting at 9 a.m. Visitors are encouraged to sit and relax while they enjoy the music and surroundings.Visit the Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market at 44 University Avenue East this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. One-hour parking is free at the parking garage across the street. The market runs every Saturday until October 8.
