HBO has confirmed that London, Ont.-born Rachel McAdams will be the female lead in the new season of True Detective.
McAdams will play Ani Bezzerides, described by the network as “a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.”
Also part of the cast is Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor), playing a war veteran and California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer, and Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes) as the wife of the mobster character played by Vince Vaughn.
Vaughn headlines the cast along with Colin Farrell, playing a compromised police detective.
The first season of True Detective, created by Nic Pizzolatto, brought Emmy nominations for stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The series was also nominated for Outstanding Drama.
HBO says Season 2 has begun production in California.
The website Deadline reported in September that McAdams and Kitsch were expected to join the cast.
