Bitten gets a second season on Space and Syfy

Series starring Laura Vandervoort as world's only female werewolf to begin shooting new episodes in Toronto and Hamilton

It’s twice Bitten for a homegrown TV series about werewolves.

Space recently announced it would bring back Bitten for a second season and now Syfy has jumped on board.

The U.S. network aired the first season of the series, which stars Toronto-born Laura Vandervoort (Smallville) as the world’s only female werewolf, and announced Friday that it’s signed on for Season 2.

“Bitten . . . has found a growing and passionate fan base on our channel,” said Chris Regina, Syfy’s senior vice-president of programming, in a news release.

The show averaged 1.1 million total viewers on the U.S. channel while it was the Space channel’s most-watched original series ever, reaching more than a million viewers a week and averaging 347,000 viewers for initial Saturday broadcasts.

Space says the series also gained a loyal social media following and spurred a #RenewBitten campaign on Twitter, with celebrity fans like Lance Bass, Nikki Reed and Dean Cain.

The show, which is based on Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series of novels, is produced by Entertainment One.

It also stars Greg Bryk (Rookie Blue), Greyston Holt (Alcatraz), Steve Lund (Being Erica) and Michael Xavier (The Best Years).

Production on 10 new episodes will start this summer with shooting in Toronto, Hamilton and Hespeler, Ont.

Viewers can catch repeat airings Sundays at 11 p.m. on Space or at The entire first season will air again on CTV this summer.
