Platform divers bag Pan Am gold for Canada

Roseline Filion, Meaghan Benfeito win 10-metre synchronized diving competition

Canada’s platform divers are back on top.

Roseline Filion and Meaghan Benfeito won the 10-metre synchronized diving competition at the Pan Am Aquatics Centre on Monday afternoon, beating the Mexican team that them at the London Olympics.

This is the second medal for both women, who took silver and bronze in the individual competition on the weekend, and a bit of redemption as they wanted a one-two finish there.

Brazil’s Ingrid De Oliveira and Giovanna Pedroso won silver.

The Mexican team of Paola Espinosa, who also won gold in the individual, and Orozco Alejandra, took bronze after struggling on their final two dives.

The Canadians led for the first two dives, stumbled on their third, dropping to second in the overall, but regrouped on their final two dives to finish first.
