Canadian men win back-to-back Pan Am rugby sevens gold

Canada takes down Argentina 22-19 in drama-filled contest Sunday

Canada’s rugby sevens men beat Argentina 22 – 19 to win back-to-back Pan Am Games gold medals.

In the final, as with Canada’s other key matches, it trailed for much of the drama-filled game. But mistakes and missed opportunities were always followed up with spectacular comebacks.

Just to get to Sunday night’s gold medal matchup the Canadians had to pull out a dramatic come-from-behind win over Chile and, in the semifinals, beat their American rivals, the highest ranked team in the tournament.

As team captain John Moonlight said earlier in the day they might leave things to the last minute but “we know we’re going to win.”
