Scottish photographer Neil Douglas thought he was looking into a mirror when he boarded a plane to Ireland on Thursday and looked at Robert Stirling, seated next to him.
An image of the two bearded strawberry blonde (ginger) men has spread wildly on social media, receiving more than 10,000 retweets and favourites in just eight hours.
It was shared by Wire Media’s Lee Beattie, who tweeted: “Guy on right is the husband of my friend @elrottencrotch. Guy on left is a STRANGER he met on a flight last night!”
She added: “I can't stop looking at it. They are the same man.”
The look-alikes later went to the pub together, according to a pictured posted by @RossJamesHunt.
The hilarity did not end there. @Artminx suggested his friend, @ndmckeown, was the third doppelganger.
The Scottish IT worker posted an image of himself in response with the caption: “you're the 3rd person to say this! I don't see it!”
And so it continued. Twitter user @the_real_pumps posted his a selfie and wrote: “omg I think I'm the 4th.”
Niclas Jornee weighed in, asking: “Can I join the club guys..?”
@erikmy then asked the question on everyone in Britain’s minds, writing: “Isn't this how everybody looks??”
Then the ginger bearded takeover truly kicked off when @davidhunter 7 tweeted himself next to the original duo with the caption “we’re everywhere!!!!!”
