Kathleen Wynne doesn’t rule out carbon tax

Premier Kathleen Wynne promises carbon pricing plan in spring to fight climate change

Ontarians will learn this spring exactly how the provincial government will put a price on carbon emissions in efforts to reduce global warming, Premier Kathleen Wynne said Wednesday.

“I’m not going to weigh in on what we might or might not do,” she told reporters when asked if she likes British Columbia’s carbon tax on gasoline, particularly with oil prices falling.

Besides a carbon tax, a cap-and-trade system on carbon emissions for industries is a possibility.

“Reducing greenhouse gases is something that absolutely must happen,” Wynne said.

Environment and Climate Change Minister Glen Murray is working on the government’s plan.
