Only one gunman was involved in the shooting attacks at the National War Memorial and on Parliament Hill, Ottawa police now say.
Reports immediately after the attacks suggested there might have been more, but Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau said Thursday the attack was the work of a lone gunman.
“That’s what the chief has been saying,” Const. Marc Soucy said Thursday morning.
Soucy said the investigation is ongoing.
Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a 32-year-old Canadian, has been identified as the shooter by a Canadian security source.
There was initial confusion after false reports of a shooting at the same time at an Ottawa shopping mall.
Much of the downtown and offices on Parliament Hill were locked down into Wednesday evening, as police secured the area.
