Trudeau won’t talk to Sun media after Ezra Levant calls father ‘slut’

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau won't be "engaging'' Sun Media until it responds to a segment on the Sun News Network that criticized him and his parents

Justin Trudeau won’t be speaking to Sun Media until the outlet provides an “appropriate response’’ to a television segment by Ezra Levant in which he criticized the Liberal leader’s father, Pierre, calling him a “slut.’’

During a segment last Monday on the Sun News Network program, The Source, right-wing pundit Levant took a swipe at a photo tweeted by the Liberal Party of Canada, showing Justin Trudeau kissing a bride on her left cheek, while she posed for a wedding picture with her bridal party that day.

Levant says the photo is inappropriate, and that Trudeau “invaded’’ the bride’s “personal, intimate, day’’ and turned her event into something about him.

In the segment, which runs close to five minutes, Levant also calls Trudeau’s mother Margaret and his father, the late former prime minister, “promiscuous.’’

Levant’s segment “crossed the line by airing a personal attack on the Trudeau family that was offensive, and breached any reasonable measure of editorial integrity,’’ Kate Purchase, a spokesperson in Justin Trudeau’s office, said in a statement Tuesday.

“We have raised this issue with the appropriate people at Quebecor Inc., the owners and operators of Sun News Network, and have asked that they consider an appropriate response. Until the company resolves the matter, the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, will continue to not engage with Sun Media,’’ she added.

Purchase said the boycott includes Sun reporters.

On Tuesday, Trudeau said in Ottawa that Levant’s comments were unacceptable and “beyond the bounds of civil discourse.’’

In an email to the Toronto Star Tuesday, Martin Tremblay, a spokesperson for Quebecor, said “we won’t comment on this.’’

Too bad someone had the audacity to reveal a national symbol, castor canadensis, while frollicking with the Rolling Stones at Studio 54, early '70's. Is that what the brat is complaining about?
