RCMP investigate two deaths near Montague, PEI

The RCMP is investigating a double homicide south of Montague, Prince Edward Island after the area was blocked off through the night

The RCMP is investigating a double homicide south of the small town of Montague on Prince Edward Island.

Police were called to a home on St. Mary’s Rd. around 9:15 p.m. local time, Wednesday night, where two people were found dead.

Police set up road blocks in the area at both ends of Route 318, which continue to be in place. The public is asked to avoid the area while an investigation into the deaths continues.

Though some early reports suggested the road blocks were due to a police manhunt, Sgt. Leanne Butler said that no manhunt was underway.

“What I can tell you at this time in this dynamic, unfolding case is that tragically we’re investigating the death of two individuals,” Butler said in a press release early Thursday morning.

Extra officers have been brought in to assist with the operation.

The Guardian newspaper in Charlottetown is reporting that the victims, a father and son, were shot to death at the father’s home.

Officials have not yet released any information regarding the victims, or the cause of their deaths.

An RCMP investigation is ongoing.
