VANCOUVER: Scion is dead.

The current models will be branded as Toyotas and blended into the 2017 model lineup starting in August.

Changes include the FR-S sports car and iM five-door hatchback re-badged as Toyotas.

The tC sports coupe will have a final release date edition and go out of production in August.

The widely admired C-HR concept shown at the LA Auto Show will become a future Toyota model.

Service and repair of Scion products will be unchanged and continue to be done at Toyota dealerships.

Scion bowed in Canada in 2010 and was seen as bringing new customers into the Toyota family. In fact, 65 per cent of Scion buyers in Canada were new to the brand and it had the lowest average client age in Canada at 39.

In Vancouver were Toyota was introducing the sixth-generation, at a hastily called press conference, Toyota spokesman, Steven Beatty, said the reason for bringing Scion here in the first place had been accomplished.

New, he said, the addition on the Scion models will broaden the entire lineup.

For instance, these models will now be offered in the eastern Canada that never saw a Scion shop opened.

Beatty said Toyota would work closely with its dealer council in the transition.
