Windsor’s IRIS House invites you for lunch today, where they’ll be serving up Greek cuisine from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at a charity event in support of the shelter. The menu includes Greek lentil soup, Greek salad/garden salad, green beans, spanakorizo (spinach and rice pilaf), Greek style baked tilapia, pork souvlaki kebabs, Greek chicken breasts, baklava, cakes, assorted desserts, coffee and tea. The cost is $9 per person, take-out $10. IRIS House provides care for those that suffer from persistent mental illness, and is located at 1280 Ouellette Avenue. Parking is available behind the building.

Those interested in reducing their packaging waste can benefit at ShopEco. Their bulk refill station is stocked with many items, and they now have added Sweet Almond Oil. It’s for massage generally, but many people use it as a moisturizer for lips and skin in the winter – it sells for only $0.05 a gram!

Starting at the AGW today, an Adult Clay and Pottery Class. During this 6-week course, participants will learn hand-building techniques, glazing and decoration, texturing, slip application, brushwork and more. Learn how to make beautiful, functional and decorative pieces. The class costs $110 ($99 for AGW members), and takes place in the Saltmarche-McLaughlin-Haworth Studio from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

A few high schools are holding tours tonight, inviting potential students to check out the school, meet the faculty and get a registration packet. W. F. Herman Secondary School hosts a dinner for visitors at 5 p.m., with tours starting at 6 p.m. General Amherst opens its doors at 6 p.m., and Riverside will begin presentations at 6:30 p.m.

Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts presents their Senior Dance Class Artistic Endeavours Showcase tonight and tomorrow, beginning at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. This event features an evening of dance including ballet, tap, and belly dancing. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, and $10 for adults.

Head down to Phog Lounge tonight to participate in Windsor’s most popular poetry open mic. Sign up for TOAST is first come-first serve and starts at 8:30 p.m. with readings at 9 p.m. Poets, prose writers, musicians and other performers are welcome (so long as you can present it in five minutes or less), and first time readers, as well as the more experienced crowd, are encouraged to take to the stage.
