On September 15, local anti-poverty advocates gathered on the front lawn of All Saints’ Anglican Church to launch an election-style sign blitz with one message: “Let’s Vote for a Poverty Free Ontario”.

Pathway to Potential, Windsor Essex County’s Poverty Reduction Strategy, distributed 20 lawn signs to be displayed on the local properties of participating faith communities and other community sites throughout Windsor and Essex County.

The sign blitz is part of the Poverty Free Ontario initiative, which is a partnership between ISARC’s Faith To End Poverty Campaign and the Social Planning Network of Ontario.

Windsor-Essex was one of 16 communities across Ontario that held an event to mark the launch of the campaign.

“This campaign is a non-partisan effort to get all of the Ontario provincial political parties to make ending poverty a priority in their election campaigns,” said Adam Vasey, Director with Pathway to Potential.

The Interfaith Social Assistance Reform Coalition is a provincial network of faith groups dedicated to faith-based approaches to public policy reform in the areas of social justice and poverty elimination.

Poverty Free Ontario is an initiative of the Social Planning Network of Ontario (SPNO) working with local community groups across the province.

Pathway to Potential is a collaborative strategy for reducing poverty and ensuring social and economic wellbeing for residents of Windsor and Essex County.
