Spreading Positivity

An art show opens this weekend in downtown Windsor, in a space you wouldn’t expect to see art hanging on the walls. The Rebirth of Perception exhibit is all about changing perspectives though, and bringing the art world to a different audience. Art can be appreciated in any space, and beginning this Friday, the Boom Boom Room will double as an art gallery.
The I Love Windsor project, spearheaded by UWindsor grad Aleksandra Wadas, is meant to be a reminder for Windsorites that there are positive things happening in the city. The local art scene, with all of its fractions, is a burgeoning one. It’s efforts like the one being made by Aleks Wadas that are reinventing Windsor- we are no longer just an automotive town. “Change needs action, and action starts with a single thought,” writes Wadas on the event’s Facebook page. “Why not make this thought a positive one?”
There are opportunities for artists everywhere you look in this city. From craft bazaars to gallery exhibits, every level of artist can gain some recognition (and hopefully sell some pieces) by networking and showing their talents. This show will feature the work of 10 local artists, including Wadas.
Others showing in the exhibit include Peter Baillie, Lorah Berry, Patrick Edwards, Kari Gignac, Frenik Keorn, Diane Laplante, Angela Roy, Heather Teahan and Owen Swain. Each bring a different perspective of the city to the show, from natural landscapes to architectural studies, fun portraits, edgy line drawings and wall-sized abstracts.
The show opens this Friday at the Boom Boom Room (315 Ouellette Avenue), starting at 9pm. The show runs this Friday and Saturday, as well as June 3rd and 4th. The club opens at 10pm, with a special early opening of 9pm for the reception this Friday. All the artwork will be for sale. Come out, support some local artists, and have you mind changed!

Local artists ready the walls at the Boom Boom Room for a show opening this Friday, called The Rebirth of Perception.
